Kiki Smith: Transformations

Jan 29-Feb 27

UNT on the Square

Printmaking methods inform Kiki Smith’s process of repetition and renewal of ideas and images in multiple forms. The act and effect of layering and of transforming one form into another guide the overarching spirit and impetus of the artist’s work. Transformations will include five large tapestries, woven at Magnolia Editions, as well as the work that has preceded and surrounding their production process.

Smith’s tapestries are the result of a journey from disparate drawings to prints to printed collage to digital prints with over painting, weaving, and reweaving. Of this work, Kiki Smith states, “how imperative it is at this moment to celebrate and honor the wondrous and precarious nature of being here on earth (Nick Stone, Magnolia Editions, magnoliaeditions.com)."

Opening Reception: Jan 30, 7-9 pm

Artist Talk: Jan 29, 7pm. For location information, see art.unt.edu.
